SSBP3 antisense RNA 2 (SSBP3-AS2) is a non-coding RNA (antisense RNA) gene. It is transcribed from the antisense strand relative to the Single-stranded DNA binding protein 3 (SSBP3) locus. The functional characterization of SSBP3-AS2 is currently limited; as with many antisense RNAs, it may regulate the expression of its sense partner gene (SSBP3) at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level, but there is no definitive evidence or characterization regarding its biological role, disease associations, or suitability as a therapeutic target. SSBP3-AS2 should not be confused with the protein-coding gene SSBP3 (Single-stranded DNA binding protein 3), which is involved in DNA binding and gene regulation and has roles in development and neurobiology. SSBP3-AS2 appears in gene databases such as GeneCards as a distinct non-coding RNA with minimal functional annotation, which is typical for many antisense lncRNAs at present. Based on available data, SSBP3-AS2 is not cataloged as a therapeutic drug target, enzyme, transporter, or receptor.
