SSU72 pseudogene 1 (SSU72P1) is a pseudogene related to the SSU72 gene, which encodes for an RNA polymerase II CTD (C-terminal domain) phosphatase involved in the regulation of transcription and RNA processing. Unlike the functional SSU72 gene, SSU72P1 does not produce an active protein and has no known biological function, molecular activity, or disease association. As a non-coding pseudogene, it is not considered a relevant therapeutic or diagnostic target[3]. The functional SSU72 encoded phosphatase is important in regulating phosphorylation of RNA polymerase II during the gene transcription cycle[5][7]; however, SSU72P1 itself is simply a non-functional genomic remnant and is not included in molecular families such as enzyme, receptor, transporter, etc. No current literature indicates that SSU72P1 is involved in any disease pathway or that it interacts with drugs or acts as a biomarker.
