Overview

SSX family member 18, pseudogene (SSX18P) is a nonfunctional copy of an SSX family gene located in the human genome. SSX family genes are known for their involvement as cancer-testis antigens and their participation in synovial sarcoma translocations, but SSX18P itself is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it cannot produce a functional protein. While some pseudogenes can regulate the expression of their parent genes via noncoding RNAs, there are no peer-reviewed data indicating SSX18P has a functional or disease-related role. SSX18P is not used as a therapeutic target, and there are no drugs or clinical interventions directed against it[1][3][5].

Biological functions

Other (pseudogenes are generally noncoding, but some can regulate parent gene expression through RNA-based mechanisms such as microRNA decoys, antisense RNA, or siRNA production[4][5])
03

Disease associations

Other (pseudogenes in general may contribute to cancer biology and regulation of tumor suppressors or oncogenes, but there is no direct evidence for SSX18P’s specific disease association[2][4][5])
