SSX2IP pseudogene 1 (SSX2IPP1) is classified as a human pseudogene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional due to mutations, lack of regulatory elements, or other disabling features. SSX2IPP1 is related by sequence homology to the SSX2IP gene, which encodes a protein involved in cell junction organization, centrosome maturation, and ciliogenesis, but unlike SSX2IP, SSX2IPP1 does not code for a functional protein and has no known biological activity, disease association, or role as a therapeutic target[7]. If the intent is to find drug targets or clinically relevant proteins, the gene of interest should likely be the protein-coding *SSX2IP* and **not** SSX2IP pseudogene 1.
