Overview

The SSX7 pseudogene (ENSG00000235350) is a genomic DNA sequence homologous to the functional SSX7 gene but is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it does not encode a functional protein[4][3]. Pseudogenes are typically nonfunctional DNA segments that can arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition and accumulate mutations that prevent them from encoding functional proteins[3]. Although some pseudogenes can be transcribed into RNA and influence regulatory networks, there is no evidence that the SSX7 pseudogene has a known biological function, clinical relevance, or role as a therapeutic target[2][4]. Its parent gene, SSX7, encodes a protein that may modulate transcription and is part of the synovial sarcoma X breakpoint family, but these features do not apply to its pseudogene counterpart[1][4].
