Stabilizer of axonemal microtubules 1 (SAXO1) is a microtubule-associated protein that specifically localizes to centrioles and cilia, where it stabilizes microtubules and plays a key role in the regulation of cilium length and function[1][2][6]. SAXO1 binds to microtubules via its Mn modules and is critical for cilium biogenesis and proper axoneme organization[1][2][6]. Although similar in function to MAP6 proteins, SAXO1 is specific for axonemal and centriolar structures and is not widely implicated as a therapeutic drug target[1][5]. No known drugs, associated disease roles, or biomarker/safety information are currently described for this protein[5][6].
