STAG2 antisense RNA 1 (STAG2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene that may be transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the protein-coding STAG2 gene. The precise functions, disease relevance, and biological pathways involving STAG2-AS1 are not well defined in current literature or functional genomics resources. Unlike the STAG2 gene, which encodes a protein component of the cohesin complex and is relevant in cancer biology and chromosomal segregation, STAG2-AS1 does not encode a protein and is not currently established as a therapeutic target. No known drugs, therapeutic mechanisms, or disease biomarkers are associated with STAG2-AS1. If you are concerned with the protein-coding gene, see “STAG2” (Stromal antigen 2 cohesin complex component), which *is* a well-studied target in cancer biology, but *STAG2-AS1* refers specifically to a non-coding RNA.
