STAG3, and not STAG3L1, plays established roles in chromosome segregation, meiosis, and has disease relevance[4][8]. The STAG proteins (STAG1, STAG2, STAG3) are core cohesin components, participating in chromatin organization and regulation, but STAG3L1 is annotated as a pseudogene and there is no evidence of it being translated or acting as a therapeutic target[1][6].
