Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive bacterium commonly found on the skin and in the nose of humans. It is an opportunistic pathogen capable of causing a wide range of infections, from minor skin conditions to life-threatening systemic diseases. Its high propensity for developing antibiotic resistance, particularly methicillin resistance (MRSA), poses a significant clinical challenge. S. aureus produces numerous virulence factors and employs sophisticated immune evasion strategies, contributing to its pathogenicity and persistence. No vaccine is currently available.
