Target intelligence / Profile preview
Staphylococcus aureus capsular polysaccharide type 5 (CP5) is a high-molecular-weight carbohydrate polymer that forms the bacterial capsule, a key virulence factor. It promotes immune evasion by inhibiting opsonophagocytosis and modulates adhesion. It also stimulates cytokine production in human cells. As a major serotype in clinical isolates, it is a potential target for vaccine development.
