Wall teichoic acids (WTAs) are major anionic glycopolymers found in the cell wall of *Staphylococcus aureus*, a Gram-positive bacterium. WTAs are covalently attached to the thick peptidoglycan layer and play crucial roles in bacterial physiology, pathogenesis, and interaction with the host immune system. WTAs are essential virulence factors that promote colonization, modulate immune recognition, and influence resistance mechanisms against certain antibiotics. Because they are essential for survival and pathogenicity—and absent from humans—WTAs represent attractive targets for novel antibiotics or vaccines aimed at preventing or treating *S. aureus* infections.
Inhibition of WTA synthesis impairs bacterial growth or reduces virulence.
