Staphylococcus aureus surface proteins are a diverse group of proteins covalently anchored to the bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan. These cell wall-anchored (CWA) proteins play critical roles in S. aureus biology, including adhesion to host tissues, immune evasion, biofilm formation, iron acquisition, and invasion of non-phagocytic cells. Key examples include Protein A (SpA), Clumping factor A/B (ClfA/ClfB), IsdA/IsdB, and SdrC/D/E. They are considered therapeutic targets for the development of novel antibacterials and vaccines.
