Target intelligence / Profile preview

Staphylococcus capitis E12 (S. capitis E12)

Target
S. capitis E12
Molecular classification
Bacterium, Probiotic
01

Overview

Staphylococcus capitis E12 is a strain of coagulase-negative, Gram-positive bacteria isolated from healthy human skin. It exhibits potent antimicrobial activity against Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes), the bacterium implicated in acne vulgaris. This strain produces four distinct phenol-soluble modulins (PSMs) that act synergistically to inhibit C. acnes growth. It is being explored as a biotherapeutic approach for treating acne vulgaris.
