Staphylococcus LukGH (LukGH)

Target
LukGH
Molecular classification
Pore-forming toxin, Bi-component toxin, Leukocidin
01

Overview

Staphylococcus LukGH (also known as leukocidin GH or LukAB) is a potent bi-component pore-forming cytotoxin produced by *Staphylococcus aureus*. It targets and lyses human phagocytic cells, such as neutrophils and macrophages, by forming a pore complex in the cell membrane after binding to CD11b, contributing significantly to immune evasion during infection. Unlike other bi-component leukocidins, LukGH forms a heterodimer in solution before receptor binding.

Mechanism of action

Forms a heterodimer (LukG and LukH) that binds to CD11b on phagocytes, leading to oligomerization into a pore complex in the cell membrane and subsequent cell lysis.
