Staphyloxanthin Biosynthesis Enzymes

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Oxidoreductase, Transferase, Synthase, Desaturase, Dehydrogenase
01

Overview

Staphyloxanthin biosynthesis enzymes are a group of enzymes (CrtM, CrtN, CrtP, AldH, CrtQ, and CrtO) responsible for the production of staphyloxanthin, a golden carotenoid pigment in *Staphylococcus aureus*. This pigment acts as a virulence factor, protecting the bacteria from reactive oxygen species produced by the host immune system. Inhibiting these enzymes is a potential strategy to reduce the virulence of *S. aureus* infections.
