Overview

STARD13 intronic transcript 1 (STARD13-IT1) is a human long non-coding RNA gene transcribed from intronic regions of the StAR related lipid transfer domain containing 13 (STARD13) locus on chromosome 13. It is classified as an lncRNA and does not appear to encode functional protein. STARD13-IT1 may regulate expression, splicing, or epigenetic status of the STARD13 protein-coding gene, and shares features with other non-coding intronic transcripts, such as regulation by hormones (e.g., androgens), and potential involvement in cancer-related gene-expression programs. However, its specific functions, disease associations, and therapeutic relevance remain to be fully elucidated. STARD13-IT1 is different from the protein-coding STARD13 gene (also known as ARHGAP37, DLC2, GT650, LINC00464). The IT1 transcript is non-coding, and the available data suggest no known drugs or therapeutics targeting it directly. Its function is probably regulatory, consistent with other intronic lncRNAs.
