Stathmin-4 (STMN4)

Target
STMN4
Molecular classification
Microtubule-associated protein, Cytoskeletal regulatory protein, Stathmin family
01

Overview

Stathmin-4 is a member of the stathmin family of proteins that regulate microtubule dynamics within cells. It exhibits microtubule-destabilizing activity, meaning it promotes depolymerization (breakdown) of microtubules, which are essential components of the cytoskeleton. This function plays an important role in processes such as neuron projection development and possibly cell cycle regulation. The protein is predicted to localize primarily to the Golgi apparatus, growth cones, cytoplasm, and neuron projections. While its precise roles in human disease remain under investigation, related proteins like stathmins have established links to cancer due to their influence on cell division and proliferation.
