Ste20-related Proline Alanine Rich Kinase (SPAK) is a serine/threonine kinase that regulates ion transport and cell volume by phosphorylating SLC12A family cation-chloride cotransporters. It is activated by WNK kinases and plays a crucial role in blood pressure regulation and cell volume homeostasis. Dysregulation of SPAK is implicated in hypertension and stroke outcomes. It has emerged as a potential drug target for hypertension and stroke.
