Overview
Stem Cell Factor (SCF), also known as kit ligand, is a cytokine and hematopoietic growth factor that plays a critical role in the regulation of several biological processes including hematopoiesis (blood cell formation), melanogenesis (pigment cell development), and gametogenesis (germ cell development). It exerts its effects by binding to the c-KIT receptor (CD117), a type III receptor tyrosine kinase.
