Stem Cell Factor 248 Isoform

Molecular classification
Cytokine, Growth factor, Secreted protein
01

Overview

Stem Cell Factor 248 (SCF248) is a 248 amino acid isoform of Stem Cell Factor (KITLG). It contains an additional segment encoded by Exon 6, making it susceptible to enzymatic cleavage and release into the extracellular environment. It is the predominant soluble form of SCF. SCF248 is upregulated during chronic inflammation and fibrosis, and promotes activation/recruitment of mast cells, eosinophils and ILC2s. It signals through the c-Kit receptor and is considered a therapeutic target for fibrotic diseases.

Mechanism of action

Antibody binding leads to internalization and degradation of surface-expressed SCF248 on fibroblasts/myofibroblasts, reducing activation signals for inflammatory immune cells via c-kit receptor engagement.
