Stem Cell Replacement

Molecular classification
Cellular Therapy, Hematopoietic Progenitor, Multipotent Progenitor
01

Overview

Stem cell replacement, or stem cell transplantation, is a medical procedure used to replace damaged or destroyed stem cells with healthy stem cells. This is achieved through infusion of either donor (allogeneic or syngeneic) or patient's own (autologous) stem cells after high-dose chemotherapy or radiation. The transplanted stem cells engraft in the bone marrow or target tissue, proliferate, and differentiate to restore normal tissue function, primarily in the hematopoietic system. It's used to treat blood cancers, bone marrow failure syndromes, and sometimes for regenerative medicine.
