The stem cell secretome refers to the complete set of bioactive molecules and factors secreted by stem cells into their surrounding environment. This collection includes a wide variety of substances such as proteins, cytokines, growth factors, hormones, extracellular vesicles (including exosomes and microvesicles), lipids, and nucleic acids (such as mRNA and miRNA). The secretome is central to the paracrine activity of stem cells—meaning it mediates communication between cells—and is now recognized as a primary mechanism through which stem cell-based therapies exert their regenerative effects.
