Target intelligence / Profile preview
Sterile alpha motif domain containing 11 pseudogene 1 (SAMD11P1) is a human pseudogene. Pseudogenes are DNA segments similar to functional genes but have lost their protein-coding ability. They typically do not produce functional products but may have regulatory roles in gene expression by acting as RNA decoys or competing for regulatory elements, although no specific regulatory function is reported for SAMD11P1. Pseudogenes like SAMD11P1 can complicate genetic analyses because they resemble active genes at the DNA sequence level. SAMD11P1 is not itself a drug target, receptor, or enzyme. Its related functional gene, SAMD11, plays a role in retinal cell development, but such function is not attributable to this pseudogene.
