Overview

Sterile alpha motif domain-containing protein 15 (SAMD15) is a protein encoded by the SAMD15 gene on chromosome 14[3][5][6]. Its defining feature is the presence of a sterile alpha motif (SAM) domain, a conserved protein interaction module that mediates self-association and interaction with other SAM- or non-SAM domain-containing proteins[2][7]. SAM domains can also, in some cases, bind RNA, though this has not specifically been shown for SAMD15[2]. SAMD15 is predicted to participate in cellular signal transduction and may enable serine/threonine kinase activation[6]. The molecular and physiological functions of SAMD15 in humans remain incompletely defined, and there are no established disease associations or therapeutic applications. It is classified as a protein-coding gene and is not considered a canonical receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor[5][7].
