Enzyme, Cytochrome P450 enzyme, Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase, Steroidogenic enzyme, Transport protein
01
Overview
Steroidogenesis enzymes in the adrenal cortex are a group of specialized proteins responsible for the biosynthesis of steroid hormones from cholesterol. These enzymes are essential for the production of glucocorticoids (e.g., cortisol), mineralocorticoids (e.g., aldosterone), and adrenal androgens (e.g., DHEA). Defects in these enzymes can lead to disorders such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
