Stimulatory Guanine Nucleotide-Binding Protein Alpha Subunit (Gsα)

Target
Gsα
Molecular classification
Heterotrimeric G protein, G protein alpha subunit, GTPase
01

Overview

The Gs alpha subunit (Gαs) is a key component of the heterotrimeric G protein complex that couples cell surface receptors to adenylyl cyclase, stimulating cAMP production. Encoded by the *GNAS* gene, it plays a central role in cellular signal transduction. Mutations can lead to constitutive activation and disease.

Mechanism of action

Gsα stimulates adenylyl cyclase, leading to increased cAMP production and activation of downstream targets like Protein Kinase A (PKA).
