Overview

STK4 antisense RNA 1 (STK4-AS1, formerly known as STK4 divergent transcript or STK4-DT) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is transcribed in the opposite direction to the STK4 gene. Like most antisense lncRNAs, it is presumed to play a role in regulating the expression of its sense gene, STK4 (Serine/threonine kinase 4/MST1), though its precise biological role, functional mechanisms, or disease associations have not been well established in the literature[1]. There is currently no evidence to support STK4-AS1 as a direct therapeutic target or as a clinically relevant biomarker. It is best classified as a non-coding antisense RNA with possible gene regulatory function.\n\nAdditional context and technical notes:\n- STK4 (MST1), the protein-coding gene, is a serine/threonine kinase and a central part of the Hippo pathway, with important roles in immune cell function, apoptosis, and cancer biology[3][4][5]. In contrast, STK4-AS1/STK4-DT is non-protein-coding and not directly implicated in these processes as a therapeutic target.\n- STK4-AS1/STK4-DT does not encode a receptor, enzyme, or other typical druggable protein class, and is not classically considered a therapeutic or diagnostic target.\n- There is no evidence of small molecules, biologics, or other drugs in clinical or preclinical use that specifically interact with STK4-AS1/STK4-DT.\n- No established role as a biomarker or in clinical patient selection.\n- Safety and therapeutic concerns are not relevant as this lncRNA is not targeted clinically.\n\nSummary:\nSTK4 antisense RNA 1 (STK4-AS1, also STK4 divergent transcript) is a long non-coding RNA with unclear function, not a therapeutic target, and not currently used in clinical biomarker or drug targeting contexts[1].
