Overview

Storkhead-box protein 1 (STOX1) is a transcription factor characterized by a winged-helix (forkhead-like) DNA-binding domain, involved in regulation of gene expression by RNA polymerase II[2][3][4]. STOX1 is implicated in maintaining mitochondrial function and controlling levels of oxidative and nitrosative stress, especially in the placenta[3][4]. It also plays roles in cell cycle progression by upregulating gene expression (such as the CCNB1 promoter) and in cell proliferation and signaling pathways[3][4]. Mutations in STOX1 are strongly associated with pre-eclampsia/eclampsia 4 (PEE4), and altered expression or activity of STOX1 has been identified as a potential biomarker for Alzheimer's disease[2][3]. There is no direct evidence STOX1 is targeted by any approved therapeutic drugs or acts as the primary target of a small-molecule therapy.
