Overview

STPG3 antisense RNA 1 (STPG3-AS1), also known as C9orf173-AS1 or C9orf173 antisense RNA 1, is a long non-coding antisense RNA located on human chromosome 9 (chr9:137250219-137253497, GRCh38)[1][7][10]. This gene does not encode a protein and is classified as an antisense lncRNA, typically transcribed from the opposite strand of a nearby protein-coding gene[1][10]. The current literature and genomics resources indicate no direct evidence that STPG3-AS1 functions as a therapeutic target (e.g., receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.) or interacts with any approved drug[10]. Its precise molecular and disease roles have not been experimentally characterized; however, as with other antisense RNAs, it may be involved in regulating nearby or related gene expression through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, or RNA-mediated gene regulation[3]. There are no known drugs, biomarkers, or specific disease associations reported for STPG3-AS1 in available databases, and it is not currently recognized in clinical contexts as a target for therapy or diagnostics[10].
