The Streptococcus pneumoniae capsular polysaccharide serotype 14 is a surface-localized polysaccharide that forms a thick capsule essential for bacterial virulence in Gram-positive pathogen S. pneumoniae, which causes pneumonia, sepsis, and other infections primarily in children and the elderly.
