The Streptococcus pneumoniae type 1 capsular polysaccharide antigen is a highly purified carbohydrate antigen derived from the capsule of *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotype 1. This molecule is a key component in certain pneumococcal vaccines, where it serves as an immunogen to induce protective immunity against infections caused by this serotype. The capsular polysaccharide acts as a major virulence factor, protecting the bacterium from phagocytosis. It induces actively acquired immunity and activates both B-cells and CD4+ T-cells.
