Streptococcus pneumoniae type 11A capsular polysaccharide antigen is a highly purified component derived from the capsule of *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotype 11A. It is used as an active immunizing agent in vaccines to protect against pneumococcal diseases, including pneumococcal pneumonia and bacteremia. The polysaccharide capsule is the dominant surface structure of *S. pneumoniae* and plays a critical role in virulence by interfering with host immune clearance mechanisms. Immunization with this antigen induces production of antibodies that specifically recognize type 11A capsules. Protection conferred by vaccination is strictly serotype-specific. O-acetylation plays a crucial role in determining both structural identity and immunogenicity.
