Target intelligence / Profile preview
The Streptococcus pneumoniae type 19F capsular polysaccharide is a complex carbohydrate structure that forms the outermost layer (capsule) of the bacterium S. pneumoniae serotype 19F. This capsule is a critical virulence factor, enabling the bacterium to evade host immune responses by interfering with opsonophagocytic clearance mechanisms. The capsule is also the primary target for current pneumococcal vaccines, which are designed to elicit serotype-specific immunity.
Active immunization; elicitation of serotype-specific antibody response.
