Target intelligence / Profile preview

Streptococcus pneumoniae type 19f capsular polysaccharide antigen-specific B cell receptor (19F CPS-specific BCR)

Target
19F CPS-specific BCR
Molecular classification
Receptor, B cell receptor, Membrane-bound Immunoglobulin
01

Overview

The B cell receptor (BCR) specific for the capsular polysaccharide antigen of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 19F. This BCR, expressed on B cells, mediates the specific immune recognition of this bacterial capsule, leading to B cell activation and antibody production. The type 19F capsular polysaccharide is a T-independent type II antigen. Higher concentrations of anticapsular antibodies are required for effective opsonization due to the capsule's resistance to complement-mediated clearance. PD-1 signaling can suppress the function of these B cells.

02

Mechanism of action

The BCR binds to the type 19F capsular polysaccharide, leading to B cell activation, proliferation, and differentiation into antibody-secreting plasma cells. In the context of vaccines, this induces protective antibody responses.
