Stromal cell-derived factor 2-like protein 1 (SDF2L1) is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident protein involved in protein folding, serving as a chaperone cofactor that binds misfolded proteins and participates in the cellular response to ER stress[1][3][5]. It is ubiquitously expressed across human tissues, with higher levels found in the testis and moderate to low expression in other organs[4]. SDF2L1 expression is upregulated during ER stress and the unfolded protein response, contributing to cellular homeostasis and stress adaptation. In cancer, lower SDF2L1 expression has been associated with poor patient prognosis, particularly in breast and ovarian cancer, suggesting its utility as a prognostic biomarker. However, its precise biological role, especially regarding therapeutic targeting, remains incompletely understood and is currently not considered a direct therapeutic target[1][3][4][6].
