Stromal cell-derived factor 4 (SDF4), commonly known as Cab45, is a 45 kDa calcium-binding protein that contains six EF-hand motifs and is part of the CREC protein family[1][2][3]. SDF4 is localized primarily to the Golgi lumen and exists in multiple isoforms which govern its presence in the Golgi, cytosol, or as a secreted protein. The protein is involved in regulating calcium-dependent cellular processes, particularly secretory pathways critical for protein sorting and trafficking[1][2][3]. SDF4/Cab45 plays key roles in cell proliferation, migration, and cancer cell metastasis, and has been linked to outcomes in cancer and sepsis, serving as a negative regulator of ER stress and poor prognostic indicator in certain cancers and septic states[1][2][3].
