Overview

Structure-specific endonuclease subunit SLX1A (SLX1A) is the catalytic subunit of the SLX1-SLX4 structure-specific endonuclease complex, which plays a pivotal role in the resolution of branched DNA structures formed during DNA repair and homologous recombination. SLX1A is specifically active against DNA substrates such as 5'-flap structures and Holliday junctions, facilitating the generation of ligatable DNA duplexes during the repair process. It is essential for maintaining genome stability by preventing the persistence of harmful DNA intermediates; defects in this protein are associated with several human diseases, notably those linked to defective DNA repair and genome maintenance, including various cancers and Fanconi anemia[1][2][8][9][11].
