SUCLA2 pseudogene 3 (SUCLA2P3)

Target
SUCLA2P3
Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

SUCLA2 pseudogene 3 (SUCLA2P3) is a non-functional genomic DNA sequence similar to the SUCLA2 gene, which encodes the beta subunit of succinate-CoA ligase involved in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. Pseudogenes generally lack the ability to encode functional proteins and do not play a direct biological role. SUCLA2P3 itself does not encode a protein and is not considered a molecular target for therapeutics or diagnostics. The functional, protein-coding SUCLA2 gene is expressed in catabolic tissues and is essential for mitochondrial energy metabolism; however, the pseudogene forms (including SUCLA2P3) do not have a known biological, functional, or disease-related role[1][5]. A pseudogene of SUCLA2 has been documented on chromosome 6[1][5].
