Sucrosomial iron is an advanced oral iron supplement formulation that encapsulates ferric pyrophosphate within a protective phospholipid (mainly sunflower lecithin) bilayer and a sucrester (sucrose ester–based) matrix (the “sucrosome”). This encapsulation shields iron from gastric acids and digestive disturbances, allowing for enhanced absorption along the entire gastrointestinal tract—including through M cells and paracellular pathways—largely bypassing traditional iron transporter-mediated mechanisms. Its efficient absorption and reduced local irritation minimize gastrointestinal side effects common to conventional oral iron, making it especially useful for populations such as those with chronic gastrointestinal intolerance, post-bariatric surgery, pregnancy, and chronic kidney disease
