Overview

SUGT1 pseudogene 3 (SUGT1P3) is a human pseudogene related to the functional SUGT1 gene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes, but they are nonfunctional; they may arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition and typically lack the capability to code for a functional protein[2]. The functional SUGT1 gene encodes a protein important for kinetochore function, cell cycle regulation, and interacts as a cochaperone with heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90)[1][3][4]. However, SUGT1P3 itself does not produce a functional protein and has no direct therapeutic relevance, biological function, or role in disease based on current scientific literature. There is no evidence SUGT1P3 functions as a competitive endogenous RNA or regulatory noncoding RNA, as reported for some pseudogenes[2]. SUGT1P3 should not be confused with the functional gene SUGT1, which is involved in several cellular pathways and has been implicated as a prognostic biomarker in cancer, but SUGT1P3 itself is not a recognized biomarker, therapeutic target, or drug interaction partner[1][3][4]. Key point: SUGT1P3 is a non-coding pseudogene; it is not a proper target for therapeutic intervention, and the correct functional gene with biological and clinical relevance is "SUGT1 homolog, MIS12 kinetochore complex assembly cochaperone (SUGT1)"[3][4]. If the intent was to target the functional SUGT1 protein, please clarify—otherwise, "SUGT1 pseudogene 3" is not a validated molecular target.
