Overview

SUGT1 pseudogene 4 (SUGT1P4) is a non-coding pseudogene in the human genome, related to the SUGT1 gene. Unlike SUGT1, which encodes a protein essential for kinetochore function and cell cycle progression (notably interacting with heat shock protein 90 and implicated in mitosis and immune responses[1][3][5]), SUGT1P4 does not encode a protein and has no direct biological, therapeutic, or disease-related roles. Pseudogenes like SUGT1P4 are DNA sequences similar to known genes but typically lack the ability to code for functional proteins due to mutations or deletions, and they are not used as therapeutic targets or biomarkers[5][2][3]. Some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles at the RNA level, but there is no current evidence of such a function for SUGT1P4. When searching for drug targets or molecular functions, the active protein–SUGT1 (Suppressor of G2 allele of SKP1 homolog, abbreviated SUGT1)—should be referenced instead of the pseudogene SUGT1P4.
