Overview

SUGT1P4-STRA6LP is a readthrough locus formed by the fusion of an upstream SUGT1P4 pseudogene and a STRA6L pseudogene, located on human chromosome 9. The readthrough produces a set of transcripts predicted to be subject to nonsense-mediated decay and are therefore not believed to give rise to any functional protein[1][3][5][10][11]. This locus is classified as a pseudogene and is not implicated in any known biological function or disease. While pseudogenes in general can play roles in gene regulation through RNA-mediated mechanisms, there is no evidence that SUGT1P4-STRA6LP acts as a regulator or has pathological significance in humans[1][4][9]. Pseudogenes are typically considered “nonfunctional” DNA segments resembling functional genes but lacking the ability to encode full-length, functional proteins[4]. Occasionally, pseudogene-derived RNAs may regulate other genes, but SUGT1P4-STRA6LP has not been characterized as performing such a role[1][9].

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (possible)Source or decoy for regulatory RNAs in rare cases (general pseudogene function, not specific to this locus)

Disease associations

None established for this locus; in general, some pseudogenes are implicated in cancer and other diseases via transcript regulation, but no explicit disease association is known for SUGT1P4-STRA6LP
