Target intelligence / Profile preview

Sulfotransferase family 1C member 5, pseudogene (SULT1C5P)

Target
SULT1C5P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, related to the cytosolic sulfotransferase enzyme family
01

Overview

SULT1C5P encodes a pseudogene related to the cytosolic sulfotransferase 1C family but does not produce a functional sulfotransferase protein due to interruptions or mutations in its sequence. SULT enzymes, including those in the 1C family, are known for their role in sulfate conjugation of hormones, drugs, and xenobiotics, but pseudogenes such as SULT1C5P are not active in these processes. In the common marmoset, a related SULT1C5 gene is functional, but the human SULT1C5P (also called SULT1C1P or formerly SULT1C2P) is non-functional and not involved in metabolism or disease. There is no evidence supporting SULT1C5P as a therapeutic target, and it should not be considered in pharmacological studies or drug development. The gene is listed in major nomenclature databases as a pseudogene, and any assignment of biological, disease, or drug interaction roles would be incorrect.
