Target intelligence / Profile preview

Sulphonylurea receptor subunit SUR2B (SUR2B)

Target
SUR2B
Molecular classification
ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channel subunit, Ion channel subunit, Receptor subunit, ABCC family member
01

Overview

SUR2B is a regulatory subunit of the ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channel, crucial for linking cellular metabolism to electrical activity in smooth muscle and some neurons. It forms a hetero-octameric complex with Kir6.2 subunits and is involved in regulating muscle contraction and neuronal activity by modulating KATP channel activity in response to cellular energy status. Sulphonylureas can bind to SUR2B, but with lower affinity than SUR1.

02

Mechanism of action

Modulates KATP channel activity by binding ATP and ADP, and interacting with sulphonylureas. ATP hydrolysis by NBD2 affects channel gating.
