SUMO1 pseudogene 3 (SUMO1P3) is a noncoding member of the small ubiquitin-like modifier 1 (SUMO1) gene family. Unlike the functional SUMO1 gene, which encodes a ubiquitin-like protein involved in post-translational protein modification and cellular regulation, SUMO1P3 has lost its protein-coding ability and is classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes like SUMO1P3 do not produce active protein and are not considered classic drug targets, but can occasionally be transcribed into noncoding RNA that may play subtle regulatory roles in gene expression[2][4].\n\nKey distinction: SUMO1P3 is not the same as the functional *SUMO1* gene or protein[1][2][3][6]; it is a genomic remnant, and thus not a therapeutic target by conventional definitions.
