SUMO2 pseudogene 12 (SUMO2P12) is a non-functional genomic sequence related to the SUMO2 gene, a member of the small ubiquitin-like modifier family involved in post-translational modification of proteins such as regulation of nuclear transport, DNA repair, and transcriptional regulation. SUMO2P12 does not produce a functional protein and has no known role in human biology or disease. It is classified as a pseudogene, so it is not considered a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug-interacting protein. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble known genes but are non-functional; they may arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition. SUMO2P12 is one of several pseudogenes related to the highly conserved and functional SUMO2, but unlike SUMO2, it has no evidence for protein-coding capability or biological activity.
