SUMO2 pseudogene 17 (SUMO2P17) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence related to the SUMO2 gene. SUMO2 encodes Small ubiquitin-like modifier 2, a protein involved in essential cellular processes such as nuclear transport, stress response, and transcriptional regulation. However, pseudogenes like SUMO2P17 typically do not produce functional proteins and are not considered therapeutic targets. The functional SUMO2 protein has broad regulatory roles through post-translational modification but pseudogenes, including SUMO2P17, are generally regarded as “genomic fossils” without well-defined biological or pathological roles.
