SUMO2 pseudogene 18 (SUMO2P18) is a non-coding, defective DNA sequence derived from the SUMO2 gene. SUMO2 belongs to the small ubiquitin-like modifier family, which is involved in post-translational modification of proteins, but the pseudogene does not produce a functional product. While SUMO2 itself plays critical roles in transcriptional regulation, DNA repair, and other essential processes[1][2][3][5], SUMO2P18 represents a sequence copy with disruptive mutations, often regarded as “junk DNA.” Pseudogenes like SUMO2P18 generally do not participate in biological processes and are not considered therapeutic targets, although some pseudogenes can rarely exert regulatory effects via noncoding RNA mechanisms; no such function is described for SUMO2P18 in current literature[5].
