SUMO2 pseudogene 5 (SUMO2P5) is a human pseudogene related to the SUMO2 gene, which encodes a small ubiquitin-like modifier 2 protein[1][2]. While the parental SUMO2 gene plays a major role in post-translational modification of other proteins, regulating crucial cellular processes such as DNA repair, nuclear transport, transcription, apoptosis, and protein stability[2][3][4], SUMO2P5 does not produce an active protein and does not contribute to these functions. Pseudogenes such as SUMO2P5 may share sequence similarity with their parent genes, and in rare cases, genetic or regulatory effects of pseudogenes have been described, but there is no established evidence that SUMO2P5 has such roles in humans[1].
