SUMO2 pseudogene 6 is one of several pseudogenes related to the functional SUMO2 gene, which encodes the small ubiquitin-related modifier 2 protein. The SUMO2 protein is an important post-translational modifier involved in nuclear transport, regulation of transcription, apoptosis, and DNA repair[1][3][5][6]. Pseudogenes like SUMO2P6 share sequence similarity with their parent genes but do not produce a functional protein due to sequence mutations or regulatory defects. While some SUMO2 pseudogenes encode mutated protein forms with altered biophysical properties, the vast majority are not believed to have functional biological roles, nor are they recognized as therapeutic targets[6]. There is no evidence that SUMO2 pseudogene 6 is a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or otherwise a therapeutic target.
